Job Placement Timeline and Turnaround
The timeline of a job placement engagement runs for the period the referral source authorizes rather than to a report date, because the deliverable is the documented search and not a report. The intake meeting is set once the referral is accepted, the job-seeking skills work fills the opening weeks, and job development continues until the person is hired, the authorized hours are used or the referral source closes the file. Status reports mark the interval the referral source sets.
Typical timeline
- Referral to intake meetingScheduled after the referral is accepted
- Job-seeking skillsThe first weeks of the referral
- Job development and searchRuns for the authorized period, with status reports at the agreed interval
- Follow-up after hireAs agreed with the referral source
Questions about job placement timeline and turnaround
What sets the length of a job placement engagement?
The authorization. A carrier, an insurer or an attorney authorizes a scope and a block of hours or a period, and the search runs within it; when the hours are used or the period ends, the file closes or the referral source extends it in writing. Within that frame, the time to a hire depends on the restrictions, the target occupations, the local labor market and the person's participation.
When does the search begin in a job placement engagement?
After the intake meeting and the vocational profile, once the target occupations are set and the resume and applications are ready. The job-seeking skills work comes first because an employer contact made before the person can present the application and interview well is a wasted contact. The referral source sees the target list before employer contact starts, so the search begins on a shared plan.
What slows a job placement search?
Restrictions that change while the search is under way, so that the target occupations have to be reset; a labor market with few employers for those occupations; a person who cannot attend sessions or interviews; and an authorization that runs out before the search has reached its employers. Each is reported to the referral source as it arises so that the scope, the hours or the occupations can be adjusted.
Can a job placement engagement be extended?
Yes, by the referral source. When the authorized hours or the period are nearly used, the status report says so and states what the next period of search would target; the referral source then extends the authorization in writing, narrows the scope or closes the file. Work beyond the authorization is not done on the counselor's own initiative, and nothing is billed that the referral source has not approved.
When is a job placement file closed?
When the person has been hired and the agreed follow-up period has ended, when the authorized hours or period have been used without an extension, or when the referral source closes the file for a reason of its own, such as a settlement or a change in the claim. In each case the closure report states the outcome, the search log and what remained open at closure.
