John May, M.A.

Biography

John May joined KWVRS in 2023 as an associate, vocational counselor and consultant evaluator. He composes labor market surveys and job analysis reports, performs transferable skills analyses, conducts vocational evaluations and assessments, assesses vocational, educational, earnings and medical history for vocational reports, analyzes the needs and costs of home care services, administers and interprets assessments and instruments, and provides deposition and court testimony as a consultant evaluator. His forensic practice preceded the firm. As the owner of May Vocational Forensics from 2014 to 2023 he served as a vocational expert witness in personal injury cases, evaluating employability and earning capacity after injury from the medical, employment and educational record and labor market information, for plaintiff and defense counsel alike. As a vocational expert and consultant with Tempus Expert Services from 2019 to 2023 he evaluated employability and earning capacity in personal injury and medical malpractice cases and served as a vocational authority in marriage dissolution cases. Earlier he managed workers' compensation caseloads and return-to-work plans as a vocational case manager with Genex Case Management (2015 to 2019); was managing partner and vocational rehabilitation counselor and expert at Solutions Comprehensive Rehabilitation Services (2005 to 2014), serving industrially injured workers; directed vocational rehabilitation services in Vermont for CNA Insurance's Northeast Regional Office through RSKCo Case Management (1999 to 2001); and was a senior vocational rehabilitation counselor and vocational expert with Wagner Rehabilitation (1993 to 1999 and 2001 to 2004). His career began in Worcester, Massachusetts, at AdCare Hospital and the Community Treatment Center. He holds a Master of Arts in rehabilitation counseling with a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study from Assumption College and studied English and American studies at Williams College. He has been a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor since 1993 and a Fellow of the American Board of Vocational Experts since 2005, holds the International Psychometric Evaluation Certification (2022) and Vermont's rehabilitation counselor certification (2001), and has served the International Association of Rehabilitation Professionals as Vermont representative, at-large representative and president-elect of its New England chapter. He has presented on forensic vocational evaluation and on determining earning capacity loss in civil litigation at the State of Vermont Continuing Legal Education Seminar, on considerations in economic damage cases to the Vermont Bar Association, and on vocational rehabilitation and catastrophic claims management at the Vermont Department of Labor Adjusters' Conference.
